Belicia Nubians, formerly Luna Cyan Nubians, became a reality in 2017 when Christie’s mom decided to sell her beloved Nubians. She decided it would be easier to raise Nigerian Dwarf’s as she aged. Steven and Christie did not have goats on their horizon, but couldn’t imagine the beautiful herd dispersing like smoke on a windy day. It was unfathomable that forty+ years of breeding would be gone in a matter of months. After a quick discussion, Steven wanted to buy young stock, raise them, and produce quality kids.

Breeding quality was nothing new to Steven and Christie. They’d been raising champion bred horses for years. They knew that breeding horses vs goats was a whole new ballpark, but forty+ years of Christie’s moms program gave them an advantage.

An advantage, you say? Yes, those forty years of breeding included impressive lines, such as Goldthwaite, Victory Meadows, Blissberry, Saada, Kastdemur’s, Price O The Field,  and Lakeshore Farms, all within the third generation. If you’re looking for dairy stock to put milk in a pail, these are the lines that do it.

Back to us… We made our choice to purchase as many as we could. Our first pick were six young does. We fell in love. By the end of the year we owned twelve young does. A year later, we had twenty. In 2019 was our second year taking us up to 30 head! 

In 2023, Christie decided to change the herd name from Luna Cyan to Belicia, mostly, because Luna Cyan was a long name when registering kids. Also, it’s no secret she likes uncommon names, but when she happened across Belicia, the Hebrew meaning for “God’s Promise,” there was no doubt it was perfect for their beloved Nubians. Kids registered in the first part of 2023 were the last of the Luna Cyan herd name, and the late summer and beyond were the first to receive the Belicia herd name.
